Description des services: Provides consultation services including prenatal genetics, cancer genetics, and general genetics * also provides education to the community and medical professionals * genetics team comprised of geneticists, genetic counsellors and support staff


Prenatal Genetics
  • as of August 1, 2021, genetic consultation is only provided for pregnant individuals with a positive prenatal screen result who meet certain criteria
  • genetic counselling and testing for a variety of conditions which can be found for a developing baby during a pregnancy * this can include inherited and non-inherited conditions
  • Enhanced First Trimester Screening (eFTS)
  • Enhanced First Trimester Screening for Twin Pregancies (eFTS-Twins)
  • As of August 1, 2021, Clinical Genetics will only be providing genetic consultation for pregnant individuals with a positive prenatal screen result who meet certain criteria

General Genetics Clinic
  • sees people of all ages to assess any medical condition that has an underlying genetic cause
  • help educate people about genetic conditions in themselves or in their families
  • genetic testing will be offered when appropriate

Cancer Genetics
  • conduct a formal assessment of cancer risk, counselling and offer genetic testing if appropriate
  • cancer is caused by genetic changes that lead to uncontrolled cell growth
  • the most common inherited cancers include breast, ovarian and colon cancer, although there are other less common cancers that are linked to a genetic predisposition



  • all individuals referred to genetics have their case reviewed
  • meeting scheduled with a genetic counsellor
  • cancer risk assessment will be completed based on medical and family history
  • options for genetic testing and recommendations for preventive screening and treatments discussed
  • work very closely with the other specialties in the hospital such as Maternal Child Services and Oncology
